Today we had a speech therapy evaluation for my youngest. We had to be there at 9, luckily I was smart and took a shower last night, because I did not give myself enough time this morning, but miraculously we got there right at 9, and its 45 minutes from our house and I thought I had left at 8:30.... I guess the real miracle is that I didn't get pulled over or get into an accident.... Anyways, he was not having ANY of it when we first got there, but he warmed up quickly and she was able to do everything that she wanted with him. I was surprised by the things that he could say and how he would respond to some of the things she was saying. His biggest problems are that he will leave off the beginning sounds of about 90% of his words, it seems like he has a hard time with verbs and ing words, he will fill in language with gibberish with a lot of N sounds. The therapist that we met with today has to write up her official report but she said he's expressing at about a 2.5-3 year old level. She also said that she feels that he is understanding a whole lot more than he is expressing, which I agree with. So the good news is that I was right and he needs extra help, the bad news is that they are short-staffed so there is a waiting list and I have to call in 3 weeks to see where they are with the waiting list. Awesome...... One more thing to add to the pile, I'm drained.......
Today Andrew made the comment that he can't wait to get the "real" me back, I'm not sure what the "real" me will be like being the mother to 3 boys...... He/we can hope its a drastic improvement from what the "me" is right now......

Hey Tiffany - this is Sara Menlove (now Doutre) and I'm normally just a blog stalker but thought I should speak up. Did you have him evaluated by the public schools/preschool? If so, and he is eligible for speech therapy, they cannot deny it (or put you on a waiting list) based on their not having enough therapists.
I can help you contact someone to make it happen sooner, but it also might just be a good idea to call back and ask them some more questions and feel it out - I can help you with questions to ask as well (I worked for the US Dept of Ed for five years on this stuff!).
Email me at saradoutre at gmail if I can help.
I'm glad you got him evaluated. Sometimes the hardest part is wondering, if there is a problem. Waiting and wondering just aren't a good mix for me. At least with a diagnosis, you can move forward, and he can get the help he needs.
Here's hoping you're able to get some well deserved rest tonight!
