Matthew's progress and Kindergarten anxiety

Matthew has come SO far with his speech the last couple of months.  One of my AWESOME friends from church graduated in speech pathology and worked with children before she had her own children so I asked her if she would be willing to work with Matthew and she has been and he is showing improvement.  I'm SO proud of him and so happy that there are people that are willing to help and take pride in what they are doing.
On the flip side of things Kindergarten registration is around the corner, he's not ready for Kindergarten, I feel like sending him to Kindergarten would be like sending him to cut down a tree with a butter knife. I'm not afraid of the teachers I feel like they are more qualified than I am to teach him, but I'm afraid of the other kids not being able to understand him and making fun of him.  Or that he will never get over being introverted and never approach anyone and engage in play with them. But, I also feel like I need to have more faith and realize that A LOT can happen in a matter of days, and we have a few months.  Then there is the option of something that has previously been a swear word at our house - homeschool.  We'll see.

Would he qualify to be in the class of that teacher at Stansbury Elementary that does full-day? Jamie Zwerin says she's heard she's the best and wants Tyler in there.

You may want to ask the school what may happen if you do put him in. They have great resources regardless of what grade he is in.
You will need to advocate for him. But I am sure they will see the need for additional help for him.

Homeschool was a swear word in my house too...but now I really love it! If it is something that your kids need, you do what you have to do.

That is hard and I don't have much advice because I think until you are in the situation you dont really get it. But my sister has twin boys that have kind of late birthdays and they are small, a little behind, so she is keeping them out. She is not going to send them until they are 6. Her husband is an elementary school principal and he does not want the boys "lost in the system" he thinks they will mature and improve on there own with more time. Just something to think about.

What a wonderful blessing to have that friend! That is wonderful you son is getting the help he needs. I some times worry about Ayla's speech. I actually took her to hearing tests to be sure she could hear properly. She is doing much better now.

I love your faith!

I won't ask you about why homeschooling is a swear word. Everyone has to arrive at educational decisions for their children based on what's best for their family.

But what is compulsory attendance age in your state?

If my child were a little delayed in any department.. speech or otherwise, I'd consider an extra year at home.

It sounds like he's really making progress right now.

I was really worried about Josh starting kindergarten and being teased for his speech issues, but he has never had a problem, he has tons of friends and no one have ever said he "talks wierd" he has also improved so much being around all the kids that he only mixes up 2 to 3 letter sounds now..such an improvment.
