Happy 75th Birthday Papa Bear! (Or Papa Smurf)

My grandpa turned 75 this week! Today my aunt Kim arranged to have a family party at my grandparents house, and I was surprised at the extended family that came, it was a lot of fun to see them and some of the cousins that we don't see very often. You could also tell house pleased my grandpa was to have everyone there. My grandpa is an amazing man, he is STILL working at RC Willey which he has done for a LONG LONG time, so if you need carpet go to the Murray store and ask for Hal Sharp! Except Tuesday, that's his only day off other than Sunday!
He goes by Hal but as I've mentioned before William is named after my Papa. He is a Junior so he goes by a nickname of his middle name. Just like my great-grandpa Bill was an amazing man, so is my grandpa, he has a heart of gold and loves his family fiercely. He would give anyone a chance and also the shirt off his back to help him get started and then give him a buck for a diet coke. That's just him.
When I was really little he fell off a horse while he was hunting and broke his shoulder and was in the hospital for quite a long time. I remember before he went into the hospital we would watch TV at night together and I would end up asleep in his lap, and so when he was in the hospital and couldn't move let alone bare any extra weight grandpa would insist on his "Tiparillo" sitting on the bed with him to watch TV... He's ALWAYS been one for nicknames, "Tiparillo" is one that he still calls me! And he would always ask ( and I just realized still does) "So what do you think?" Just out of the blue, usually when he's at work I will get a call from him and without fail the conversation will start with "How's my girl?" then after asking about the boys it will be, "So what do you think?" He never asks what thing he wants to know that I'm thinking about....
He loves to fish and we would go fishing a lot when I was younger and his legs were more able...
The first time I remember seeing him cry was on Christmas morning when he opened up his ticket to go fishing in Alaska with his BFF's Earl and Frank. Consequently my grandparents are going on a cruise (their very first cruise mind you) to Alaska this summer in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
His mom for some reason told him that he had to work until he was 71, he passed that and doesn't want to stop, he has gotten top salesman MANY times, I think people can tell that he's not full of crap like a lot of salesmen are.. He works hard for his family and there is no greater reason on earth, but I wish he would retire, but he has been heard saying that he doesn't want to retire because he knows he will bored.
The world is definately a better place and I am a better person because of my grandpa!
