Grease worn into tired hands
Streaks of dirty sweat running into bright, blue eyes
Loving, light hugs that go right into your soul
To say, I love you.
Mile-long movie marathons deep into the night
With Hailey and Mick at his side.
Hailey, his sweet angel and
Mick, his not so fierceful puppy
Lost into the night.
Canyons rides and river sides made you feel closer
To where you really wanted to be, in Heaven, at God's side.
Plaid shirts, Levi jeans and cowboy boots showed your roots.
You came to us, we loved you so, something you never knew.
Your dreams come true - a house, a family, a puppy
But most of all built in love - you had it all
Why did you let it all go?
Addictions curse got you worse of all, Love in this case
Couldn't conquer all.
I held her close and caught her tears and fears
When she said you would not return and you
Would end it all, I couldn't believe you could let it all go
I do not understand why you would make us all cry
And say good-bye
I wrote this poem when I was a senior in high school, a year and a half after my dad died. I miss him deeply. I feel blessed to know that I will see him again.
