My baby is no longer a baby... Matthew turned 3 yesterday

About 3 and a half years ago when we found out that we were having another boy (yes I was the tiniest bit disappointed that he wasn't going to be a girl), but then got excited thinking of my 2 boys getting to play with each other and being the greatest of friends!! Then we were trying to come up with a name, William was named William after my grandfather and his middle name is Russell after my father in law. We decided to just stick with family names for our boys, so I thought it would be nice to name him after Andrew's brother, Matt. We made sure that they were not going to use the name and it was decided, I wanted to use Michael for a middle name but it wasn't sitting well and didn't flow well to us either, so then it came to me to use my dad's middle name, Allen SO then 3 years ago Matthew Allen was born!! I went in for my C-section on Sunday April 23, 2006 at 9:00 am at Cottonwood Hospital in Murray, and at 10:12 am Matthew Allen was born! He weighed 5lbs 9 oz and was 18 in long!! My heart rate was at 190 through the whole surgery and my doctor and nurse kept telling me that I needed to calm down or else I would have a heart attack. I was just so scared that there was going to be something wrong with him that I just couldn't calm down until I saw and heard my little boy. I had complications in my last trimester with him. I was on strict bedrest for high blood pressure for 7 and a half weeks. I also had gestational diabetes.... It was a lot of fun, especially with William, my grandma and sister-in-law mostly took care of him everyday during that time when Andrew was working. So he was born and I heard him cry and instantly my heart rate started going down! The doctor gave him to Andrew and he brought him over and I kissed him on the head, then the pediatrician took him to examine him, and I didn't get to see him until the decision was made by us and the pediatrician to send him to LDS Hospital because he was having trouble breathing, and the pediatrician at Cottonwood couldn't get his oxygen levels to stay where they needed to be. So the paramedics that came to get him from Cottonwood to take him to LDS, got him ready to go and brought him into my room so that I could see him one more time before they took him to LDS. Because I had just had a C-section I couldn't sit up all the way and touch him, I could only put my hand on the islet and cry..... William had been sitting with me and when they took Matthew out of the room to take him on the ambulance, William started crying, saying "my baby", "my baby", and that made my family ALL start crying. Andrew left with Matthew and followed the ambulance to LDS and my grandparents, sister, aunt and cousins all stayed with me. My grandma actually ended up staying with me in the hospital the two nights I was there. So at LDS when he got there, my brother-in-law met Andrew there so that he could help him give Matthew a blessing, then they put Matthew on the ventilator. He was on the vent for 2 weeks and had to stay another week to learn to eat food from his mouth. FINALLY he came home 3 weeks and one day after he was born, the day after Mother's Day and 6 days before his actual due date. He did have to come home with oxygen, but was only had it for 10 days. He was 4 weeks early, because my blood pressure wasn't staying down....
He had problems with his lungs the first year of his life, it seemed like he always had a cold and got RSV, but it wasn't bad enough for him to be hospitalized and we had to give him breathing treatments with the nebulizer 2-3 times a day when he would get sick... He also had a heart murmur that resolved itself and would always get ear infections so he had to have tubes put in his ears. He has always been a little behind, he didn't crawl until he was about 9 months, didn't walk until 15 months and as previous posts show he still doesn't talk much, but at his 3 yr old check up the pediatrician wants me to have his hearing checked and also wants me to meet with a speech therapist, he is also going to be tested on May 1st for a special pre-school program through the school district.
He is now 27.8 lbs, and almost 3 feet tall! He LOVES to laugh and make other people laugh! He loves cars, trucks, airplanes, trains anything with wheels really! He also loves to make me mad when we are outside by throwing dirt clods onto the sidewalk and laugh when I sweep it up.... He would live outside if he could as long as he has a shovel and some dirt to dig in, he's good. He hates flowers and tries to step on them and pull them out of the ground when I'm not looking... He also has a love/hate relationship with my best friend's little girl, Abby who lives across the street from us. He doesn't like her ponies or barbies AT ALL and will hit her or throw them at her if she tries to make Matthew play with them, she thinks she's being a nice girl by sharing and Matthew must think that she is obviously trying to turn him into a girl and wants NONE of that. There are days though that they get along like two peas in a pod and he will chase her and give her hugs and kisses and maybe even play with a pony or two... Matthew is definately a home body like his daddy and likes it when we are all home together, that is when he will do funny things like suddenly stop what he's doing and spin in circles until he falls down. He has started to turn anything and everything into a sword or gun and wants you to play sword or gun fight with him. He makes some awesome shooting and light saberish sounds when we play with him. He loves the movies Cars (duh) and Toy Story 2. He also discovered Bob the Builder and Thomas and whenever he sees anything with those things on them he gets VERY excited. Unfortunately we just got rid of ALL our Thomas stuff, train tracks and everything, there is a Bertie the Bus, a Thomas, and a Toby that have survived and I feel bad that he doesn't have any tracks to play with them on, so I guess we will be buying another train set, we will NOT be buying the 200 piece one that we got for William about 3 Christmas' ago however, hopefully we can find a small self contained one.....
I LOVE this kid!

Oh Tiffany! What a sweet story of that amazing journey. As hard as it must have been, he's a great ending to the story! Congrats on three years of fun with your little guy!
